Hopefully we'll be better bloggers in 2010, but no promises. 2009 was a great year with heaps of fun adventures. Alisha & I feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends, family and opportunities. Thanks to all of your for being a part of our lives. Since the posts will be long, I'll probably break them up into several parts. Here's Part 1.

January 2009-San Diego

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtbUJTWESA1FcO7mNM26SBOINT09wmlotI6qucSNpHH4g2IvJ-r1jS6-L0sYnVGw84T_oBwyH1LRK74E4HWHGocWUh3IyjW3OTqC1LJjioZsRGjlL8rOMFpkLjkfimxhs-faJAsxzLgaLS/s320/San+Diego+081.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424048474488491202" />

Over Martin Luther Weekend we decided to take a few extra days off and spontaneously booked a trip to San Diego. This was Alisha's first trip to California so she was especially excited since she'd always dreamt of going there. To save money, we stayed at the International Youth Hostel in Point Loma. Staying at a Hostel was a first for Alisha so I wasn't sure how she'd like it. The place was super clean, in a really convenient location and we met some neat people every morning while making breakfast. We'll probably stay there again since we liked it so much and the price can't be beat.The weather was perfect, well because it's San Diego and the weather is always perfect there. We of course had a great time, because again it's San Diego and how could you not have a great time.

We bought one of those Go Cards that inlcludes admission to a million things and you pay a set price according to how many days you want to do things so we did a two day and crammed as much as we could in. We went kayaking in La Jolla and looked for leopard sharks, unfortunately all we saw was a bunch of seaweed. The water was pretty chilly but we got used to it. La Jolla is absolutely beautiful and the views of the town are great from the ocean. Alisha really loved La Jolla and said she could totally live there. Yeah, me too, if we won the lottery! Later that day we went whale watching and saw a bunch of dolphins and a few amazing whales as well as sea lions. The narrators or oceanographer people who pointed everything out to us were hilarious and made the trip very enjoyable. We really loved looking back at the San Diego Skyline, especially as the sun was setting.

The next day we went to the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park as well as the Wild Animal Park which is pretty far outside of San Diego and totally feels like you are on an African Safari. Later that day we headed to Coronado Island. Coronado was one of my favorite parts of the trip. We rented bikes and road all around and had the most amazing frozen yogurt from one of those yogurt places that Cali is known for but I can't remember the name right now. We rode around for a few hours and then soaked up the magnificent west coast sunset right on the beach. Afterwards we ate some delicious half price appetizers from the Hotel Del Coronado while sitting on the beach around their fire pits and listening to the crashing waves. It was so relaxing and nice! The trip was short but jammed pack full of good times. Right before we headed to the airport we got In-N-Out burgers one last time. They are hands down the best burgers ever. If you haven't tried one yet, you must!

<img style="display:block; It's a package deal where you ride an overnight sleeper bus from Kansas City to Colorado. The sleeper bus was hilarious! When we first got on we sat in these little booths that seat 4 people (2 on each side) and a table in between where we played games. Most of the evening I couldn't for the life of me figure out how the bus could sleep as many people as were on there since each bench that sat 2 people looked like it slept one person. Oh boy was I wrong! We had no idea how small the beds would be. Imagine a toddlers bed and then imagine sharing that with another adult and then having two more adults above you on another toddler bed that's only about 2 feet above yours. I'm so glad I brought tylenol pm, my sleeping mask and ipod so I could pretend I wasn't crammed into the tiniest space ever. I actually slept pretty well except when I woke up to Holly saying "Sir, Sir that's not a bathroom!" over and over. It turns out one of the other passengers was a little intoxicated and ended up urinating behind our bed instead of in the bathroom right in front of him. It's a great story to tell.

We stayed in Keystone went skiing there as well as Breckenridge. As far as the slopes, I liked Breckinridge better cause they had a lot more mountains and options for our beginner/intermediate skiing abilities. The keystone slopes weren't hard but they were so long that it took 45 minutest to get down one slope. I thought my legs were going to just give out. Alisha did really well for her first "real mountain" skiing and I thought I did well for not having gone skiing in 5 years. The trip was really fun and we of course had fun with Holly, Chris & Dave. I loved being in the mountains with all the snow. It would have been nice to have more down time to snow tube, shop, and relax but since we had the ski passes we want to use them as much as we could.

<img style="display:block; I'm pretty passionate about doing all we can to Save the Earth and really enjoy reusing and repurposing things. I'd like to share what we do in our household in hopes that others might adopt some of these as well as suggest more things we can do.

1. Use reusable groceries bags and baskets. We also have mesh netted ones for produce to avoid those little plastic produce bags. Plastic bags can also be recycled if their use can't be avoided. Use reusable water bottles like the SIGG ones or Stainless Steel ones. This one is such an easy change. I have a few reusables that I always have filled up and with me in the car. They keep the water cooler longer too. Travel coffee mugs are another great alternative that saves money too if you make your own pot at home. We have a few of these market totes that I found at T.J. Maxx a few years ago. I'm sure you can find them online for cheap too.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDLJsgDuaoKX3lt5c4VLZiIRmGbNE30PWZ7SUNbJnBKn2fDxNKZXCO4mNvLwxas6c_c9Oy9fbox2-gPcBBFuK7voKzzWVygBS0w_KyPANa4GWQIUVc6ThL74a2b7inQYVCt1ttppy6Pmns/s320/Reisenthel-Collapsible_3C9E2498.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336820016213111154" />

2. Buy local food. This one is so easy in the warmer months since there are Farmer's Markets all around the city offering fresh and delicious produce. Plus it's WAY cheaper than the grocery store. You can even sign up for a CSA and have all your weekly produce, eggs and meat delivered to your door. Here are some resources www. kc-csac.org, www.kcfoodcircle.org, and www.localharvest.org

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhazPttcDKt9FnKl6UeoIlrQcNm_IoBdl92MQkcYrm2si5xrgb4oLsq1uFpA6qazKWPAf1U-uEJB6KdrTdChxaTKkwna6pcIcPVe1jnT7XtTzFafNXJIJbwgNRo7zVdsq5pgm0r63Rh2qtK/s320/temescalmarketbig.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336823114226835554" />

3. Use reusable plates and cups instead of paper/plastic for parties. We use our everyday dinnerware but you can also by products made of Bamboo if you really want something that you can throw away. Bamboo is renewable so it's a little better on the environment.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 113px; height: 113px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRri6wPUr6AB6kpn22G6WXt-a7ks4zuoXo7pFXf00VJL54aGcSU_PAU9jpxYHuwC8aV9rWoFRQCtnOO7RBmcgYu_nl5rVudmy-M742Slu4GFxXk_NV12sKn8N_TqTobrBWOCbekS55nL05/s320/images.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336821648472483298" />

4. Pack our leftovers and lunches in glass pyrex tupperware instead of ziplocs or plastic tupperware that has to be replaced. They are also come in handy for microwaving foods at work so we don't have to put plastic in the microwave. Pyrex makes a great set that you can get at Target.

5. Earth Friendly, Chemical Free, Non-toxic soaps, detergents and house cleaners. Our favorite is Caldrea Citrus Mint Ylang Ylang. They have their own version of "comet" and "windex". All of their products clean wonderfully. Also, wash clothes in cold water and wear jeans and other clothes a few times between washings.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 175px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDs_tLv5gF9JzJLPqYJ-zJeEkj984vHyo-_oN0UxZxkCbWSpAKDEsY9L8nnNGd6zCjkzRzrORHm4Xp5TeOvrZn19t8uRfX4yS2haLJjo0ageOHKsrfkxPSbAz3p-uZ4ijkO2RhBibv6-J5/s320/1225199895148-1659850599.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336821530662050066" />

6. Washclothes and dish towels for messes. If we do buy paper towels, we buy the unbleached 100% recycled ones from Seventh Generation. They are awesome!

7. Buy in bulk to reduce packaging. If it's too much stuff, share with someone or another family.

8. Lately, we've been buying a lot of furniture and home decor items that are vintage, or repurposed. Not only are they unique but they come with history and no new trees were used to make them. I go to this sale once a month. www.goodjujukc.com

9. Buy recycled paper products whenever possible like printer paper, paper towels, toilet paper etc. I've even gotten notebook folders and dividers that were 100% recycled. If you want it, most likely it's out there.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 271px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioIv4auNjWg24ZLEPXw_dQfxAbN75pJPfsRs_slyJgq4m1mymLLrCj9uzinLCZ1JBj95A2NDd0VFuX0sNL1cpPSwRjIQv1o0y69xQYWrgrCKvFEUbVPgt4cM8_JEr3Jyd33X7h2ND8XX1F/s320/216522.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336822366057994626" />

10. Turn lights off when you leave a room and use CFL light bulbs. Also, unplug electronics or power strip when we aren't using them. They still use energy when they are turned off. This one saves a lot of electricity and money.

11. Ride our bikes to the store whenever possible and plan to go to multiple places in one trip to save gas and carpool.

12. RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE. You'd be surprised as to how much you can recycle. We have so little trash that we only put out our trash every other week and it's still not full. We are fortunate that our city gave us enormous rolling Recycle bins that take almost everything except glass. We save up that glass and take it the recycle center a couple times a year.

We have a few herbs that we use on a regular basis, but I'd love to have an actual garden. Once we get the garden figured out, I'd like to compost and water it with a rain barrel.April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-38724728176004526162009-04-26T07:46:00.000-07:002009-04-26T07:58:50.154-07:00Baby JagsI'm so happy to announce that my sister gave birth to my adorable lil nephew Sosaia Jagger Hoeft on Wednesday April 22 (Earth Day) in Seoul,, which was actually Tuesday afternoon for those of us in the US. They are going to call him Jagger and I call him Jags or Jaggie. He was 8 lb, 3 oz and 20 inches long. I was super worried as this is the first grandchild in our family and my sis was so far away, but thankfully, they are both healthy and doing well! I just love him to pieces already and can't wait till I get to meet him. Here's some pics from the hospital.

<img style="display:block; The transportation is super cheap so getting around is a breeze. The weather was perfect and we didn't have to wear a coat most days. We really enjoyed seeing my sisters' schools, apartments, neighborhoods and meeting their friends. Charlotte lives in Itaewon which is the International part of Seoul so we ended up meeting quite a few different people from all around the world. Holli lives in at tiny apartment the size of our dining room and all she has to cook on is a hot plate. Her neighborhood is a traditional Korean one with really cool night markets up and down the streets. I am not a fish fan so I found most of the food on display to be scary and smelly. I'm not really a fan of any Korean food, but I do have to say that the Kimchee over there is delicious.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSVlOpTr-5ivBEjnssc441LPJy2DQXf7Pw2_Rnn1XcywbVmXNrdh42_47AVjQulHk_c7heOOIysCEyOitOruDJYMshkqt8F_TREFyl-24vtT54_6PWF9U1HUULO_55uXJMY2I2SgcuMo-k/s320/DSCN0410.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297489707538386930" />
Fried Foods Cart

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin58MS4r97kXBi3r6Jg6589A4Ag5bf8S0K0BQYbMg4l68tnSBDW8KTMsD9LZzhbiO9-zILrs7lKrQ8ERrTPNWZx3YxLNqWm-h2o3dEDfbVtbYnbUk1VI0LilA4msUuSB7MSUIf1v88b45c/s320/DSCN0185.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297869766245071906" />
Yummy Gelato

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf_zU4m0smPjFoa6i3RMn1DLPttIx9PMdBpOmq9kouYwvJ-MT2QqsUHwbDLk8Vg53n4fonVEssQbzrb8ERK3nY1DCcH6HXXWEWvA8OEPMMboqp3YliWZPQAxn7PQFmevH4wqBrG2MXhc1p/s320/DSCN0175.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297862649576597330" />
Holli's neighborhood night market

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH50J0Uid1Vw8kteXy5J4N4Bh4b6hlQmeTT7LMqzkZoBk72L9MVrK_i6yIGehtvdSihG4cYPu641nQNxXGJiYBxQYE52lmD8Pta3MosRn4eANwzJT9wKIbzKxyQJjVUZ5_7bgPOWN_w6Tm/s320/DSCN0170.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297862644879936594" />
Fish for Sale. Gross!

During our 8 days there, we saw lots of sights, met fun people and attempted to cook a traditional Thanksgiving meal in a Korean kitchen. We took in the historical and cultural attractions on the city bus that provided english descriptions of each place . Nothing opens in Seoul till 10 am at the earliest and because of the time difference we were waking up at about 6 am and wanted to start our day. One day we headed out on the subway to Seoul Land Zoo. It was a beautiful place but Zoo itself left a lot to be desired. We were the only people there besides a couple eldery men and women who were there to exercise. I like to refer to them as the Zoo walkers, much like our Mall walkers.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPy-YC7Rzoi1j7BZxIaEp8EEHQ74ty2mAmb-q0MUU_CtrZ1HVSc-2Z7pRhykupe7Qxf900thGkHUMmgnD5yC2eWSLPaNDiPFLRGgoLvR9Ed9x-Hr_zJiJ7ou5tfrwSfNg3GbTpFL4kRMaC/s320/DSCN0143.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297862640382164034" />
Alisha's best friends at Seoul Zoo

We also did quite a bit of shopping. Seoul has some really great markets, including the Dongdaemun Fabric Market and the Namdaemun Market where Charlotte showed us her amazing Flower shop where two dozen gerbera daisies were about $5. I tried some pumpkin soup at a little food stall. It was good but I would call it pumpkin porridge as they put tiny pieces of rice in it. We stopped in at the eyeglass shop and I got a new pair of glasses for $45 and only had to wait 20 minutes for them to make them . Harry Potter kids frames were the only ones that would fit. I love them! After making our way through most of the insane fabric maze, they call Dongdaemun market, I bought some really cute fabrics for these sewing projects I had in mind. I must have forgotten that I don't know how to sew. Ooops! In Itaewon, Alisha got a great deal on a snowboarding coat and pants which will come in handy on our upcoming ski trip. Oh we also visited the Tailor down the street from Charlotte's house so I ended up getting my pants hemmed for $1.80. Can you believe that?? It's about $15 here. I wish I had brought all my pants with me.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEietki_2krr8aRt2DBipiQAEXUM77OPYh32CS_Z6BletKYfDdaUYZ1di-PABDXZ9L_mWf5X26ybt2NWDLmjn5ptbFclazt2Yrfl3eF41fr_iLgk8xV7bmNimhCbK33KbaL5pVcHn_xK5gtn/s320/DSCN0408.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297489705500813122" />
Charlotte & Alisha at Namdaemun Market

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuFKzF8P988S6RxNYpcL7Qc6zbB3dO9SRLtvUnO2XjI3rT9wjNWe6c25MGC7ouhUz8Bzc0SIKo-F55fx5k1eDjHqh-L1rg8tqYXSZcvrwcmN6wGGOLG0lF3DJ4S1LdlpM-h7HteW8QlG3z/s320/DSCN0020.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297869777246910914" />
Flower Market

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitBNUDfI6y6A6iOvCdcMHH-N4JoNCv1525GKKHFFZT1Uy-pP4Q9T99GvGk0sAgEzrBwCbBMQ2cxXJeGxj4DtObNn3u2cbs6_TOhk6z6R-ODvJPqoBki-t4MiW5KAFUUx8BWs8Ffncb65g0/s320/DSCN0070.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297869775354407330" />
Cute Buddha

We went to a birthday party that ended with both Holli falling flat on her face and Alisha rolling down a slope with her pants at her ankles in the street. I am so unbelievably excited! Some have said that I'm a little baby crazy and I would have to agree, note the baby countdown on the right side of our blog. Since she lives overseas and doesn't have access to all the wonderful materialism of the USA, I've taken the liberty of buying lots and lots of baby items for her. We are going to visit her and my younger sis in November and can't wait!

Two weeks ago, Alisha and I got a surprise visit from her Dad. He was in town from North Carolina visiting family. We decided that Alisha's sister and niece Haiven Fiona (10 months) needed to spend the weekend with us. I hadn't seen Haiven in forever and as mentioned earlier I LOVE me some babies. We spent the weekend catching up, playing in the backyard, taking pics of little Boops and hitting up some garage sales for baby books & toys.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZftJW9ZWrF7lVvgZyYqGb82N8cXQEa_jJjAV3wIGybSYAzn4hsALx4Roka-N_As35sL8PRwrhVhe2KSYsb8ZgCnS3xyImNoB0fMfoCxss6z-0KlYoNLzAuWqdvhySW6KwZNmNHsl3wAqf/s320/DSC_0832.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259976990061822434" />
Haiven Fiona (10 months)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjucbpPnfqcgIP-LM_Mmt9cNzS2FfaYH3Mpj-M29V7P7QV9KxyESwLknJfM7eJxjyteP43kA8bkNHemAOPFyYxh_p3Epx9C-KfLXsCpbF57XbkxDV9vxeyWgCmO6FJTTAyiX0P0jZxu6yxk/s320/DSC_0834.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259976995306977010" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS7Oq4Fk8DYT3WB5jhduQosqnc8mdTnq7dN_fJ6fUgW2rKY2LORuVTXQskaW1BbtB4F0qaEzNuy6jupF8WXNJyu2MyvzqeqBaLT5WLwPINvnjtIkIpqJK2IbMhbDiYlxCLU5BawmNtkobD/s320/DSC_0849.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259977006362407394" />
Auntie Alisha pulling Baby Haiven around our backyard. I really enjoyed seeing the similarities between Alisha & her father. He's even more of a fiery Irish than she is. Since this was the first time they had all been together we decided we must get some pics, The weather was gorgeous all weekend so we went out back again and took some family shots, which turned into another mini photo shoot. I blame my camera's fast shutter speed, but I will spare you all multiple shots. Alisha's birthday was also this weekend so on Sunday afternoon we had some friends over for pizza, wii and guitar hero. For some reason I didn't take any pics of the birthday gathering.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZh4_1MgwqGwFKW3wZ4j_BBjZC6N2aTGFY7ZOxdtMiY-hN2opTIY_k6srWsMW5gQCwPhQKT_KiQnvu9uTaH_9vNFmfOXKp5-MVioKJ-74OCgQiE5xQTjm43eaa4Ie3dvxlEu_MbUh4oJxR/s320/DSC_0919.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259970800324337794" />

Alisha, Chrissy & Haiven

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnfbY3Pd3lVL4LaOcK6u_MG4zH1UEanxflrcVmKX25HSmfflaBS3d4UNQq_a61utxA1f03XVI4BbgIPc3VCstUrYnMlWUap2DmWX6-Hy9RwKJ5Hj0hMmA1vpFssaFWbkarQKv3IivY1EMI/s320/DSC_0922.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259970812961581042" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR5Vd_vcv-W-942DldqNsAwHSV39kKuxDfrNt1ET_I6yr-PoLu5oUclpY4MMAAaycsZCtalnEfJH4Vaskz4OsUhLkZYR2a-ovs1g58_hJdLQLqfeZAkegv7yd_xi7QcNGndgIW_N7CwERp/s320/DSC_0951.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259970813693874418" />

Alisha, Chrissy, Haiven & Greg

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDHsA2IYM8i_ROs66rl7RMblunA2Sw_D4oyiE7EEMJVGja_anze2oRpTC_CcGs5pM_X3mrUoWJy9fWIXV3-Uh6DvmmuILRf1cytf-T9NfyEUWWNv6BDOifwNHtdRpAIxTp1uZS8eqtrQah/s320/DSC_0953.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259970823502494114" />April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-74887707396480141442008-10-07T15:03:00.000-07:002008-10-13T12:44:34.172-07:00Fall is in the air<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3-hGfP-8btLeD1ZtwVu2vvB5pdaLrhyphenhyphenba83b5NaCKS6Q_OESES3iJKr06JlwlLtjI04H4JGSr_p9QBC-ZTRUHhrboXhSvchY2YD1vCzfwCfUuHa8iAPMcET4p0citBSo07NCPW68H16uB/s320/IMG_0273.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256719881933307218" />

A couple weekends ago we went to the Weston Applefest and camped out at the State Park with a few friends. The weather was gorgeous. I am always amazed at how beautiful it is in Weston, the drive through the sprawling hills and farms to downtown Weston is so relaxing. I love the old buildings downtown that house Antique and other specialty shops. The campground was really great. It included a scenic overlook of the Lewis & Clark Trail along the Missouri River in addition to hiking trails and a bike trail that leads into Main Street. We definitely want to camp up there again. Both Saturday and Sunday we went to the Weston Red Barn Farm to check out their pumpkin patch & apple orchard. That place is amazing. They also have a corn maze, hay rides, bon fires, various farm animals to pet plus they sell delicious treats in their country store as well as fresh mini doughnuts and other apple and fall goodness. This past we tried the pumpkin pancake mix and man, oh man it was dynamite! We forgot our camera so the pics were taken with my iphone...not the greatest but they work.

<img style="display:block; We were so thankful that we were able to stay with my good friend who is actually in the process of moving to KC. While in Chicago, we walked a lot the first day and did some shopping. The second day we were feeling lazy so we rode on the Double Decker tour bus. Riding on Double Decker buses in Cities is my all time favorite tourist activity. Alisha and I rode them around NYC and loved it. The Double Decker in Chicago did not disapoint. We rode all over Downtown and enjoyed the interesting architecture, history and of course the views view along Lakeshore Drive. It started raining while we were on the bus so they gave out white ponchos and continued the tour.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbiZqWfZrDsQ-iAEP_a8olk8F9-0vnu1uDZACk-XwsVRK5H5OlZIph0465W3UdlQkDLUMLuoq4SURnvcJAbam5Nr5JTlb2Rxkp0qbVPtHCk0VmsxYbqOjMitckZI2i0mnYjfkIl_qFrIh0/s320/of=50,590,442-6.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241456468394519650" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0B8r3rKtknsto3r1bUdi2QPnUVV33gOr-MMtMbqnUdlPEzSHP2I6Iy_K4wZYJrb_RrCLEAb6ICrXZbMCXJXDk3WGZvELy8zt4hFfZ-wUBngwM7Dfkdk70CYsNTQFthJNiUnKgstTxNTJL/s320/of=50,590,442-7.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241456472034417298" />
Goofing off in our white ponchos on the Double Decker

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO9saAO56jCJ5EHgbzU73on6VmJ4ZtUjvg9W8syqblclht-_T3E_BdwExGqbqK-R2Kutt7vC8yYVKLX5bFC86J7Q1sepoc7Bl2D4Gv4Q5tnhfyxKIQ-yxLwd1uHUeq_axFK4OAMEEE-rQ2/s320/of=50,590,442-3.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241464309325064834" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmAKsZ1CVgVRoLmdj5oT_nfg2mTYZwgyT762SgRVEELPlAVcRMW6tK5HWUtOQa-86nBwYZ7TneEYJnYk-enEFmHL-O80coZXJVNu3emt6Y5BsKiw3b4aBX0Mj61WI9YdzmjFHj7i0-AL8N/s320/of=50,590,442-5.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241464312262484770" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ahU1nynwnnjsKRGxEb7XRS7Ht2fZ3oExgYY-hyHuDN2mqBya1bLa-BA1wuJ-JE3m4Tx6tYxZVsL6lMrHSXHf31DZCImuSbdZVUk5QTt07r0CXrjSdRuBqy3ZP-s1BrhtIjqHOz_yMp4c/s320/of=50,590,442-1.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241459574900588738" />

After the bus tour, we went to the Art Institute of Chicago Museum for free admission. Gotta love the free stuff! We only had an hour before we headed over to Amphitheater at Millenium for their free concerts. We heard some amazing Afro Latin Jazz and enjoyed yummy snacks compliments of Lauren & Rene. Rene brought along Martje who is from Amsterdam that was in Chicago for business. I really enjoyed chatting about Amsterdam and travelling with Martje. I never realized before how beautiful Chicago is, especially in the summer and around Millenium and Grant Park. I couldn't get enough of the gorgeous skyline all around me while listening to great music and chilling with good friends and family.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4vH8NkVQBKsnlx-X-VLU19vkLChO9iI-HBWuqbp6-szq_qg7W5nkqNd9UUzmMYhMndAj9PpV_VyRxNF-p2Q42FfHRunJjJIiAZ5B2MJXTL0gl9w6FY9ov5xmx74nop-XjgDoXlGEbYuGE/s320/of=50,590,442-10.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241457653208225986" />

Charlotte in front of the Millenium Amphitheater

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrr-X57vGCb7ESpnwMNV6dy7W71XMCGrwPRc2mHKPRqPT0PFRP8pa2YMWDCEZ2lLanZ-yFGuNH3Hsht5EoCukJex9wMgvec2Sm8Dkyv7U9ZnAoeyV51XXqTLkI9b6tkij7RcnB1KBm-Tqy/s320/of=50,590,442-9.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241457658257235810" />

Martje and Rene

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7zd1GiiuSqV9FkoTIHByF9yIcVTukr2eOs_QtMJjZ2E-0MNo-3LT8Knrv-dRxsBLFg4sKqHlj6PWNMcoe-H0twX6Q2Ry5jsKe2CRR23AzzDl7YUGgvTWhyPQBLdMVq1CBH1eYxayEiNlJ/s320/of=50,590,442-13.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241457652221053234" />

Night View from Millenium Lawn

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXPiFHRHloLPdWeX-OHl1ot3ucKchJg6iev7WQICGDKJXLGnokj_FJoYnCkf7RHZUtYOyR4NVH7klYmu81f1nCvU1iQexGq54H30TxFNSMEpJzWKTDn4Mg1Yj6w7dSW9M7x0O-LCyqSdCO/s320/of=50,590,442-12.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241472798276607330" />April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-39264785525406313782008-09-02T08:45:00.000-07:002008-09-02T10:15:17.453-07:00Summer 08Apologies to our fellow bloggers, we do realize we might be the laziest blogger ever since we haven't updated in over 3 months. Since she was super busy finishing up class work and preparing for the big day, I entertained my parents all day Friday. Since we had the most beautiful weather this weekend that I've ever experienced in KC we decided to go to the Kauffman Memorial Gardens, which is across from UMKC. I went there 5 years ago and I pass by it everyday on my way to work but never think to stop in. I forgot how beautiful and relaxing it is (and free). It's a little oasis in the city with fountains and vibrantly colored flowers all around. The gardens even came with a cute sleeping cat. Late Friday evening we had dinner with Alisha and Holli at Potpie. My sister has wanted to go there for months and months and either they would be closed or we wanted to eat something else. I’m really glad we finally ate there. It was delicious and such a quaint little local restaurant with a great chef. We were sitting in a booth in front of the entrance and Alisha noticed the restaurant name was casting a shadow on the brick wall and almost immediately we all thought it would be a great picture so here are some from that night and from the gardens.

<img style="display:block; On Friday afternoon while driving my parents around, I took a detour through our neighborhood and stumbled across a garage sale that had exactly what I have been wanting for a month or so. I spotted the treasured items out of the corner of my eye so we just had to stop. I got an old wagon, the red ones that kids ride around in and an old wash basin, the ones that stand on four metal legs with wheels. Everything he was selling was from the 50's or later and I loved it! I want to use both to plant our herbs, vegetables and flowers. I also found a bunch of old soda crates and army trunks on Saturday. I've never been to a garage sale in the Midwest before and I can't believe what I've been missing all these years. In Florida all you usually find is worn out crap from the 80's or 90's that should be thrown away or donated but not here. Here you find awesome shabby chic stuff from farms and old antiques. I love it!! After the garage sales, we took Mom & Dad to the City Market for the Farmer's market to o get some fruits & veggies for the week. Holli's graduation took place Saturday afternoon and was probably the most entertaining and shortest graduation ever. Gotta love those Artists! Afterwards they had a catered reception on the school lawn with some live jazz. I wasn't able to snap any good shots of sis at the ceremony and by the time we caught up with her at the reception she had stripped off her cap and gown so no pics of that momentous event. I just want to send a big shout out to my lis sis and let her know how proud I am of her!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVTwpNsxK1eXnfOUQ0f_G6zLjEuZngbJ6fAyWb5oY5RpVjW_Q0svX_JYbobZYj19qSx6clNuOXXpLnoDB3xQMZDSHqIdCo5tpTRna4W2AQvdMV8WOsKvChhP5od1iu06pIuozpoEmoKecA/s320/DSC_0156.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202119929213970242" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTrSPcgYO-znFTPXSyI-uY1xklnrpXAsMhDU4704A9VyJ4bRElTNK9THRLvUiNDEczA7LxdY7-3dWEqlPzfJpckeUiooFwfl8kbIy7Oc_5qwzp2MDPQkIMQqCfLBRg_pFUTJt-qhcHgTgI/s320/DSC_0163.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202119942098872146" />

Yesterday we had a graduation brunch and then headed to Powell Gardens after a brief stop at another garage sale :-) This was my first time visiting Powell Gardens and it was really beautiful. I enjoyed the drive out there through the rolling hills. The gardens are are great and like my Dad said, need to be visited a couple of time a month or more to see all the different flowers in bloom. The iris were in bloom yesterday. My favorite part of the whole place is the chapel looking over the lake. There was a wedding going on so we couldn't take sunset shots at the Chapel as planned.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpv9oQZlUDKDhf4DiCOAH-cICZH4hJZTDYUpR3gl9Jor8ZzfvySJ5mna9HQclWbs_X3Yzq-tWtkppiu7K631DF3GHiuYKGUREmOSITJI3Oe6rqynijFJhqg4fdT1TLhR3DXkK4NUgvQK8S/s320/DSC_0241.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202119972163643250" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOFQOINvaC1OKKr73KwZUPS8oGSswgNl6x7IYoDpMGLOwKAyXDr4FMaNA2uHE2evgOayk8TPDesFUc6sQs0p1uqni7rboTwzVD4WL_VQm36xoKkYcU1fXRa5tXSrvriZEYTfM0-ps1iySG/s320/DSC_0261.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202119985048545154" />April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-81103106194355963812008-05-05T06:46:00.000-07:002008-05-05T06:56:13.750-07:00Tulip Time<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTiSgCrxzW2OpEzNNWs49WxJwjBVqTJ-fFI3DgFFHgHKXCBPMOcIAuxlQ4rLXqFGaf-sjrdSKy1qnEqXLJsLk8aqTaOK6Qcw64gDPuF2PJDWY2FiftS_4w_vc4ayP4Eoe99FrZitDqObij/s320/016.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5196891355073690386" />
This past weekend we went to Pella, Iowa for the Annual Tulip Festival with our roommate and Graceland Friends. We had a wonderful time and the tulips were incredible. Insanely huge and all kinds of variations. Pella is a really nice small town, with a beautiful downtown. Unfortunately I didn't check my camera beforehand and it turned out my sister gave me my camera back with a dead battery and no memory card so I couldn't take any pics. The most recent ones being Nanthida(Khampakdy) Horton with her second "little" girl named Zoe. and Ann (Swails)Fritz with her first, an adorably cute little boy named Nolan. Congrats to all you new mothers out there! I love all the litte ones, well because they are so darn cute, but also because I have a thing for buying baby clothes. It began in college and I can't seem to resist those soft cuddly outfits.

Things have been good for Alisha and I. She is doing well at her new job and the "peeps" are really liking her. Some even write her letters, which are too funny! I love having her home on weekends and evenings. It's amazing how much joy I get out of us doing nothing in particular together. We haven't had much going on, I'm just wrapping up the semester. I finally finished some incomplete classes that have been looming over my head since I went home to help Mom a long time ago. I was officially accepted into the Counseling program and will begin that coursework in the fall. I will be graduating with my M.A. Curriculum & Instruction this August. Since the programs have a lot of overlap, I already have the school counseling emphasis completed which will make the Counseling Degree much shorter for me. Yipee! The sooner I can start my professional career the better!

My younger sis Holli is graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute next month so Ma & Pa will be coming up which will be fun. I got to visit with them at the end of March in Florida and we all went to Deerhaven, my church campground for a young adult retreat. It was great to see so many old friends from my childhood and relax in nature. Some Graceland Girls were there too including Katie (Hunter) Hensley, Stacy Watkins and Melanie Grimes.April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-64690827522231010002008-02-24T11:12:00.000-08:002008-02-24T13:56:09.278-08:00Weston Tubing '08On Saturday Feb. 23, 2008. We (Jill, Callie, Alisha, Joanna, Liz, and April) set out to Weston Missouri to tackle the hills of snow creek. For two fun filled hours we flung ourselves down slippery slopes. The adrenaline rush was incredible and we could not have picked a better day. I liked the new Jesse James brew I tasted from my sampler.
April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-91077294184681591052008-02-14T14:25:00.000-08:002008-02-14T14:52:16.860-08:00ValentinesHappy Valentine's Day everyone. Alisha and I never seem to get to celebrate Valentine's Day together but this year we are going to have a special romantical day on Friday. What kind of romance do we have in store? I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if we end up watching a movie and cuddling. Gotta love it! In the spirit of Vday I thought I post some pics of a photo shoot that my sis coerced me into doing with her. It actually was a lot of fun despite the fact that it was freazing outside. At least I wasn't the one lying in the snow half naked. My vote is for my sis at being America's Next Top Model...she's pretty fierce. Anwyay, the whole photo session made me remember how much I love photography and should do more of it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYDKWjml-2oepNik5Y18-RgpIZxCx9EKU4LrfmyGPBgsIICFPR77ozVnnXzjumk0leGq9CMBn-wZk8pOPQYz5auuTndR25Vkn1FuLtD1uyRsvo0tu-V69yO1x7IkChL1l3-BqFtBn0si2M/s320/DSC_0579.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166971592767947042" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKlAIgMTXV-ywIVrF_EvX_RLSQNuXFBslEfBpC6i6I9eaj3tSPC15flkpOHZACaqSrPWIoS-6QpKDp88_NZccCDAW1B6qFi9fJeTHsO8TmShsunkEQNKRp9rwhhCQqvYn0hji-zYIcsQsU/s320/DSC_0593.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166971609947816242" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtMi8z6aCxaXzDrdAzPZ6tA0poFpuFAaLJ7XBbCkzqVXBGHDaxi11B_Myl2HVdVT0xtiD1Oed2QerM_Qk-6eTrctDsgLKBIUwxehRMzNrSNxs_byKwlWFZSR-YY_UtidsnsJU3aptjIYrw/s320/DSC_0600.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166971618537750850" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsDUQwf7IeMSzR-c5bwQGT2igMjUMv4C5HmPFbW0AKCN5knE6eaw4B1vJgBHtGGRnpicf5XE8KZ3wsuTIfMEGhCVAHjg0j3POJamL91DMY9hk791uZf-gzj5q758aIOJRH6Rv4SiGI1SLY/s320/DSC_0617.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166971627127685458" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0qVJFskdjcTYbmNiyKdcinxNZb-_q9hmNQqsR89KTVLe_63rOHS_xuV9XXZlSkpYdOEa_diTyJjiGseOZEYL_aVhW6xlHCCFR3O0NZmJKszsXfH2T1-aUFqJpPOQ3wjrYB150_pDrXIYC/s320/DSC_0622.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166971635717620066" />April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-45868481655163652802008-02-12T21:19:00.000-08:002008-02-12T21:30:23.036-08:00NEW JOB
After many months of waiting I finally got an interview at a company similar to the work I do now. We moved in with our friend Liz who has a beautiful little home on a corner street. April has been working part time. she travels to schools with soccer moms and hands out prizes to kids that sell things(not sure what). I have gone back to work at Lake of Fire) to pick up PRN shifts. I can most likely work full time because god knows they need the help, but for right now I am picking out days I want to work and being flexible. I am awaiting a phone call from the other job I applied for.

I dropped April off this morning at the airport. She had an interview in Chicago. Wait...I know what you are thinking and no we are not relocating to Chicago. The interview was for a flight attendent position. Intially she passed our at home see if you can reach a certain height, but once she got there they tested her twice more and still it wasn't enough for her to move on the the next round. She was dissapointed but I told her, look on the bright side kid, you now you have all day to hang out with your friends and catch up. She returns Thursday night.April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-70940847376613428002007-12-10T11:57:00.001-08:002007-12-10T12:16:12.981-08:00SLC<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlfxT826BGzQR9wr_RwGaqceRNQV8KMtmFgWfFfFkZahnbg8gDkexGfeWx0bC1JkjAeakpng2KY0QWjTNmF-58Vqob26hgt_87doOjThwaF9-JjIyTeuYaNU6H9hAlEOiP5gff_yuPAUYS/s320/DSC02435_1.JPG" border
="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142439395352455970" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK7BStdEo3oIXYwswCcNwNNCZURnl-F01u0NR9w1-BndgchyiHlUgVRX11u23CdILeXXnjv7_1SUxVvQod5YirhQggmWuUlwmhil-1A7nhY33ROd3pEQl59FYozBqYDvfpp0Q0ZtjU9us0/s320/DSC02677.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142439403942390578" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEialbHQ9AmzBumnga1Pt7Tat5rkBZsPEY1PMWla75JvkS6XhaSx8jw1UwBmQPlj54Qwb5EjUlRlLFu2QVQ4P0JRDISzCkXflH-rVA7tn-c-nqOOyfa-pT1ypqJVsH5uiBl9NMlfpVelfGjW/s320/DSC02665.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142439416827292482" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgECTeJAeltixBA0OwjbLa56mUiE4TXvohOFSVG911b0QOpAWaeF8AbKXxWIcfenL7PpZYgyvrLG8sPCC5wZwCy_BYDrGX2rrtErbe9gEEtLwXPby1Uq84pPoC3o8CULTzfJOAiOiy6pL_7/s320/DSC02641.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142439421122259794" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGi-_wDlgpbl6T6qdmsd3QnfRlg3ZvrzXcgfURM9BaX4aV8CgKGrSpabYX4l0N7BN3Fk_Q3BajNwLVReuLvVqF185T0VDaSBvGLbOP_XGhyaVk4rT8tWpX5m3jJJb9UfNRQkIGUyfhIH8Q/s320/DSC02643.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142439425417227106" />
Here's a random sampling of pictures from Salt Lake City, Park City, and Ogden, Utah. We attended the Japanese Garden today even though my head has been pounding all day. Not much is new. I have been working 6 days a week and haven't been able to enjoy to much. We went back up to Kruger farm to get more veggies. Our car is having some problems and we have to take her in to get a check up. Hopefully it doesn't cost too much. For right now April and I would love to come to KC around X-mas time but are still discussing it. April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-38307299613612880212007-11-08T09:47:00.000-08:002007-11-08T10:43:03.764-08:00Fall in the NW<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEMEjUh7oWAelB70UHTPb1DS9hmIusxKVWCmXxD53tNuyajGI-jQVfbI_AchYzC9uin542QVAoNZxzFO0UyKTrz-rODNdCBw3e_pGS64oVWIXfefTyja9AsHyRMeSX36EdMdlRNLbW3hj9/s320/random+015.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130535948770612018" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlJ0oxwC9ZEpHiFGSxuZjdcRU2GD1AsHWZhW6a2CGKSJzQ7mBwKg372-JY5zHn43lv-ZyB1A2I7ObOUafzObtINID2wGyxcVc8WcZZjFYJH3EUL1OghPYWBiVYmfCfKNfTBy8v7qULnd-A/s320/random+058.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130535965950481218" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvxZNeEIfwT6VrCLXS_uhxxzAAGkGRicWgAxJjwgJgDghSyv3hAbDn8RVVo7-lKX90wzIcUnQv311uQR-sv4sYB59kbfnjNTHZDmAyJ_XlgBXti87SWi5R4aDjJdBUJRRQcM7FQMU31S8d/s320/DSC02387.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130536008900154194" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4QeNygUqDDRBHmCNNqvTgSeV7ydKEQ4Sp0VnNcB9kQQMO3N7Dp53Uh4x1ITTTOnucxLOLwNIgz49Va1rQTOgIbSX2BPociIJBgNlo1X02wfMJNRmbPgyiqTq6PwScrjf80DtjsZVahDPV/s320/DSC02388.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130536056144794466" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuudr388P7buGRJX368lTt7rxhmgzikvI66b4qoMg0ib7LpU-cqda2B6M_sPw1242Bdx8X6PlzJP-U2tikOCNVE56U7um19VUK0_Xfxk4L5aEwtXHbCmEXWs8AT2c9rjZePLh4z7clcOPN/s320/DSC02393.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130536064734729074" />
Sorry it's been so long. We still don't have internet. Comcast has a monopoly out here and charges a fortune. Anyway, we have been busy trying to settle in. Ikea has been our best friend lately...thank goodness for particle board furniture. It's definitely not too spendy. Yes that's right I just said spendy. That's the term used out here instead of expensive. No matter whose mouth it comes out of it always sounds so darn cute. On the cuteness scale It's the equivalent to the yeah you betcha said with a Wisconsin accent.

We did have some time last Thursday to go out to Sauvie Island which is only about 10 minutes from us. It's a small little island with lots of beautiful farm land. In the summer months you can pick your own lavender, flowers and so on from the U-pick farms. We wanted to go to the pumpkin patch and corn maze but I guess they stop on Halloween. I don't understand this. Aren't pumpkins for Thanksgiving too? I don't think the pumpkins knew it was Nov. 1. We were able to stop at Kruger Farms and get lots of veggies and fruits for little cash. It amazes me how a such an amazing and rural place is so close to downtown. You can check out Sauvie Island and Kruger Farm at www.sauvieisland.org and www.krugersfarmmarket.com

Alisha's been working at this textile factory called E.E. Schneck since last Friday. It's a two week assignment through her temp agency. We're hoping more jobs will keep coming but a permanent position would be even better. I'm still job hunting and waiting to hear back from Habitat. I went to their office and met some of the employees and will be volunteering with them next weekend. They are going to have a booth at the Give Green Holiday and Food Festival to raise money. www.givegreenfest.com It sounds like it will be a lot of fun and a great way to raise money for Habitat as well as spread the word about the different ways people can volunteer and give. Besides that, the food and entertainment sounds delightful. On Monday I'm hoping to finally check out the Japanese gardens in Washington Park. www. japanesegarden.com The gardens will be free to everyone for Veteren's Day. Yipee!!

Below are some pics from the farm, the view from our balcony of Macleay Park which is one of the little parks in Forest Park which also encompasses Washington Park. Forest Park is literally a Forest with about 30 miles of hiking and biking trails. check it out at www.friendsofforestpark.com The leaves have been really vibrant and so far the weather has been gorgeous. It's only rained one day. There's always a thick misty fog in the morning before 10 a.m but that keeps everything so green and full of color. There's also a pic of our apartment.April & Alishahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13034092391682186721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926013698520136367.post-28906195350613986832007-10-18T12:57:00.000-07:002007-10-21T14:49:04.126-07:00Kansas City Here We come<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh93TAexPhiMZWQrDoRoVbm9qZWRKH9stOxKHLjzEUEX4CFZ9GEZOmZZ3hi6WFwwBDqJ2Pg11uJfWrXKz2_3L1dxCoTwH6V7GE3Uk2imLR0Fs2TdXaU8lbzrerSk-ANpzQ1caCquxqaMjDM/s320/Kansas+City-09-29-05+0221.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123910238336230146" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoapzqt3StpsuXJuncm1hEAe4DhIck9RGWqTPNRsd0TtF-C7t7yPaahR03i8glnWUoVA_n9FBc81GdTEp73FG_XDijGkt5tIuCJZHGbvYvZBMVc5UcPAYxX1i5qfEhyrVcT_nNK7_gemAp/s320/Kansas+City-09-29-05+0218.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123910246926164754" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqBTsO4Cch2elgC_CEuR0m19NMZk2WL_hDP0KXYnpw2LvpRRoQMiRoRzvNqyObhjNdBePCcfbJ2TtB1WR4lElIUR2krfu9C0a9JLNQJttocoln_IVJduSv0blGnGU41M1XbEexAkswgEJr/s320/Kansas+City-09-29-05+0228.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5123908271241208562" />
There have been some changes to our tickets and Alisha and I will both arrive in KC late at night this Wednesday the 24th and stay till Tuesday Oct. 30 in the afternoon. I'm really excited because that gives us more time to see friends and family. We have to go through our storage unit and ship some stuff to Portland, but I didn't want all our time spent on that. Anyway, we hope to see as many of our loved ones as we can in that amount of time. See you all soon! The pictures are some my dad took Fall 2005 one year before me moved into the wonderful Western Auto Building. It's been a year since we moved into the loft.
